Airtel has announced a partnership with American chipmaker company Qualcomm

to launch 5G services in India. Airtel said in its statement to the stock exchange that the company will use Qualcomm’s radio access network platform to rollout the 5G network in the country.


Airtel and Qualcomm will jointly create a 5G fixed wireless access network and work to introduce low cost and fast service across the country. It will be designed to provide broadband connectivity at gigabyte speed for homes and businesses. It is believed that this partnership of Airtel can pose a challenge for other companies.

Airtel gave a demo of 5G in Hyderabad, the first company to do so
Recently, Airtel showcased a 5G live commercial network in Hyderabad. Airtel is the first company in the country to do so. Now Airtel has chosen Qualcomm as its partner for the expansion of this service. Airtel and Qualcomm Technologies will collaborate for its extensive use, including 5G fixed wireless access.

More than 4 million subscribers associated with Airtel in December 2020
According to the TRAI report, Bharti Airtel has become the telecom company to add the maximum number of wireless users for the fifth consecutive month. In December 2020, the company added 40.5 lakh wireless subscribers, with the company’s userbase reaching 33.87 crore. This is followed by Reliance Jio, which added 4,78,917 subscribers and with this the userbase of the company has grown to 40.877 crore.

Jio ready to rollout 5G, just waiting for spectrum
Meanwhile, Airtel’s biggest competitor Jio has said that it has prepared an in-house solution for 5G. As soon as spectrum is available, it will start rolling out services. Jio’s parent company Reliance Industries raised about $ 97 million from Qualcomm’s investment arm last year for its digital unit Jio.

Spectrum auction will be held in March
The auction of spectrum in the country is going to start from March 1. For the auction, Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea all three telecom companies have submitted Ernest Money Deposit (EMD). Reliance Jio has deposited Rs.10 thousand crores as EMD, while Airtel has deposited Rs.3000 crores and Vodafone-Idea has collected only 475 crores.
