Taking cognizance of the case of Innocent Vishnu Tiwari, who was sentenced to 20 years in the false charge of rape, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the Chief Secretary and the UP DGP. Has asked. Vishnu Tiwari, 43, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the trial court in a rape case at the age of 23. Now twenty years later, the Allahabad High Court has declared him innocent. Many members of Vishnu’s family died in these 20 years. His conduct in prison was always found to be good, but despite this he was not allowed to attend his father’s funeral. He was also not allowed to attend his brother’s funeral.
NHRC sought report-
The NHRC said that there may be several cases in which innocents over 75 years of age are serving sentences in prison, clearly reflecting the performance of the Sentence Review Board. The Commission found that if this is the case, it is a violation of the human rights of the victim. The NHRC has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary and the UP DGP, seeking a detailed report on the matter. It has sought details about the action taken against the officials responsible in the case. Also, information has been sought about the steps taken for relief and rehabilitation to compensate for the injury inflicted on the victim over the years.

Vishnu Tiwari was arrested on 16 September 2000. He was booked under the SC / ST Act under rape and atrocities. In the year 2003, he was sentenced by the Lalitpur court to life imprisonment for 10 years in the rape case and in the SC / ST Act. According to the court order, the two convictions were to run concurrently. Tiwari was accused of raping a village woman while she was going to work in the farm from home.
