PATNA: Two unlikely visitors to JD (U) precincts on successive days – Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MP Chandan Singh calling on Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Monday and student activist-turned-CPI member Kanhaiya Kumar meeting minister Ashok Choudhary on Sunday – have led to speculation that something is brewing in the state’s political cauldron.

Surajbhan Singh, claimed his discussion with Nitish was a “routine” one on problems pertaining to his constituency Nawada.
The timing of the meeting is significant. Last week, LJP Chief Chirag Paswan had blamed the CM’s indifference for the delay in opening a medical college in his constituency Jamui, ”a source said.
LJP spokesperson Asaraf Ansari said the meeting between an opposition MP and the CM was being blown out of proportions. “The MP may have some work pending in his constituency and the CM’s assistance is required. I am amazed by the hue and cry over a meeting, ”he told TOI.
In January, LJP’s lone MLA, Raj Kumar Singh, had met Ashok Choudhary, minister and Nitish aide, at his residence in Patna. On Sunday, it was Kanhaiya Kumar who walked into Choudhary’s residence, causing a flutter in political circles. He had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Begusarai against BJP’s Giriraj Singh.
Kanhaiya’s meeting with Choudhary assumes significance in the light of a censure motion passed against him by the CPI in Hyderabad recently for allegedly misbehaving with the party’s office secretary Indu Bhushan in Patna on December 1 last year. Reacting to speculation about Sunday’s meeting, JD (U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad said there might be ideological differences, but functionaries of different parties often meet each other.
When asked about JD (U) ‘s reaction over the possibility of Kanhaiya switching sides, the JD (U) spokesperson said it was purely hypothetical. Neither Kanhaiya nor Choudhary could be dialogue for comment.
